How many calories should I be eating?
To calculate how many calories your body should be consuming you want to find out your basal metabolic rate, or BMR. Your BMR is the number of calories your body needs in order to maintain basic functions and your current weight. There are all kinds of BMR caluclators out there, but a very simple way to determin a ballpark number of calories you should be eating is to take your body weight and multiply it by 10. If you weight 200 pounds, then eating 2000 calories a day would be your BMR. Keep in mind this is a ballpark, but a very good estimate. It doesn’t take into consideration your daily activities.
Find out how many calories you currently consume
So now that we know how many calories you normally should be eating, the next step is to take a few days and record everything you eat and drink. You’ll want to keep track of the calories in every single thing you eat by recording them from the nutrition information located on most packaged food and drinks. Don’t cheat yourself, eat and drink like you normally would for these first couple of days.
Lose weight by cutting calories from your diet
Now hopefully a few days have passed and you have a good idea of how many calories you normally take in. Let’s say that you recorded yourself taking in 2700 calories, and you only weight 200 pounds. Your BMR says that in order to maintain the same weight, you can only take in 2000 calories, so anything above 2000 calories means that you will gain weight. In order to start losing weight, you need to forget those 2700 calories you recorded yourself eating and drinking and cut 500 calories from your BMR. Try to consume only 1500 calories in a day, for a whole week. You’ll notice a huge difference.
Most people will drop about one pound a week using this forumla. It’s proven to work, all you have to do is follow the rules. Remember, you can also cut calories by doing exercises. If you include cutting 500 calories from your BMR as well as exercising for around thirty minutes a day, you’ll start dropping pounds in no time. Now get out there and start cutting calories.
